Coaching Philosophy

Betsi’s coaching philosophy centers on helping children discover a true passion for the game while also growing as individuals. She believes sports provide an incredible platform to teach teamwork, perseverance, respect, and other values which extend far beyond the field. Through positive encouragement, structured learning, and an emphasis on having fun, Betsi strives to create an environment where players develop both their skills and their confidence. Ultimately, her goal is to guide each child toward becoming not only a better player, but also a stronger teammate and person.

Personal Info

Raised in South Florida, Betsi played competitive soccer into young adulthood, beginning at age 8—a journey which helped cultivate her practice and appreciation for teamwork, perseverance, and ambition. For 15 years, she studied and developed a career in elementary education and childhood recreation, helping lay the perfect framework for coaching! Several years ago, she and her family relocated to Maryland, where she had strong family roots for multiple generations, ultimately joining Howard County, where she continues to raise her children and support the community through her work in behavioral health, and of course is an proud Baltimore Ravens fan!

Playing Experience

Betsi has had a lifelong love of both playing and watching sports, beginning with organized sports at age 5, and by 8 she was playing competitive soccer and softball, throughout the rest of her childhood and high school years, honing her skills as a Right Fullback in soccer and Catcher and Third Base in softball. In addition, Betsi and her best friend launched and played on her school’s first girls’ high school powderpuff football team, showing her passion for teamwork and competition across multiple sports. Today, Betsi is thrilled to channel that same competitive spirit and love of the game into supporting her son’s own soccer journey.

Why Do You Like Coaching for CiTY?

Betsi loves coaching for Ellicott City Soccer Club because it has been such a meaningful part of her family’s experience, beginning when her son joined on the rec side in kindergarten, followed by her decision to begin as Head Coach for his U8 rec team, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the entire group return together for U8/9. Now, Betsi is thrilled to be progressing onto the travel side. What makes this club so special is its commitment to instilling values, fostering growth, and making sure kids have fun while learning and competing through soccer.
